Diabetes in Men
Knowing the symptoms of diabetes in men is paramount because, unlike gestational diabetes, which only catches women, men can suffer from Types 1 and 2 diabetes. Note that this phrase does not exempt women from Types 1 & 2 diabetes. Now, recognizing the symptoms of diabetes mellitus in men is paramount because then, one can go look for early diagnosis and treatment fast. The good news is that diabetes in men is manageable, just like it is in everyone else. Some men are most susceptible to diabetes than others. For example, overweight men who are aged over 40 years will get it easier than younger healthier men. However, as said earlier, this is not gospel truth. So if you are a man, you need to watch out for the symptoms of diabetes.
Signs of diabetes in men vary from one person to another
That is right; most men will exhibit different symptoms, but they will all be suffering from diabetes. This happens due to differences in genetics, eating and living habits. Note that the symptoms of type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes are similar. After all, whatever type of diabetes that you suffer from, one thing that is for sure is that you lack enough insulin in the blood or if you have it, then it is not functional. Therefore, the smart thing for any man to do is to know as many symptoms as possible so that they can recognize them early enough, and go for diagnosis.
The diabetic signs in men can be mild or they can be extreme although there are not many cases of extremity. However, it is not a wonder for a diabetic man to go into coma before the condition is diagnosed. Type 2 diabetes is the major culprit. In this, the body is still producing insulin, but the cells are resistant to insulin due to some insensitivity or other. Maybe the insulin is not functional. In that case, one needs to have their insulin from elsewhere. Usually, this takes care of all the symptoms. However, it is also important that you change your eating habits and start exercising. The good news is that, unlike what many people think a diabetic man has to change his food, he can take the same food as others, but in different quantities, minding the carbohydrates especially.
Despite a few differences, the indications of diabetes in men are almost similar to those in women. Some of the symptoms to look out for include:
Excessive thirst
Hunger
Dry mouth
Increased urination
Unnecessary fatigue and weakness
Urinary tract infections
Skin infections and many more
Of course, these are just a few of the main signs that one will experience. There are many more, like dizzy spells. Some of the symptoms need to be addressed immediately, even before the diagnosis. For example, if you urinate frequently, then you have to drink a lot of water, to prevent dehydration. If you know the symptoms of diabetes in men and you see the help of a physician immediately, then your case will be very manageable.
